In Celebration of Golden Rain (score)

Richard Felciano

In Celebration of Golden Rain (1980) was written to celebrate the gift of a magnificent bronze set given to the University of California at Berkeley by Samuel Scripps. It inaugurated the Twelfth World Congress of the International Musicological Society, whose theme was East/West interdisciplinary studies. From this topic came the idea of combining bronze instruments, in both pelog and slendro tunings, with a Western instrument, the pipe organ, in equal temperament. The challenge of such a combination was as fascinating as it was vexing.
