Korona Suminggah: a prayer for an end to the Coronavirus Pandemic (score)

This score presents Korona Suminggah, a Javanese lancaran composed by Saptono as a musical prayer for the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing inspiration from the Shinto ritual Oni Subé in Fukuoka, the piece combines spiritual symbolism with traditional tembang “Suwe Ora Jamu,” arranged in pelog pathet barang and pelog pathet lima. With handwritten notation for vocal and kendhang parts, the composition has been performed and recorded by ensembles such as Kartika & Kusuma. Korona Suminggah exemplifies how ritual, composition, and cross-cultural expression converge to respond to global crisis through music.
