Gamelan Padhang Moncar
Gamelan was first established at Victoria University of Wellington in 1976, when the Indonesian Embassy loaned a the pelog half of a Central Javanese set of instruments donated by Ibu Tien Suharto. Slendro instruments to match were commissioned by the NZ School of Music in 1989. Director: Budi Surasa Putra. Manager: Megan Collins. Recorded a number of CDs of new compositions, often combining gamelan with Western instruments, under the leadership of former manager, Jack Body.
