Langen Suka

Active since the 1980s, promoting traditional Central Javanese gamelan music and dance in Sydney through performances, demonstrations, workshops, courses, and weekly practices. Originally formed as the Sydney University Gamelan Society after a continuing education course taught by Dr Jennifer Lindsay at the University of Sydney. Relaunched as Langen Suka Sydney Gamelan Association in 1999; reregistered as Langen Suka Gamelan Music Inc. in 2023. Director: Vi King Lim. Has access to gamelan instruments (slendro and pelog) owned by the Australian Museum and the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Sydney. Currently housed at a historic wool store building in Ultimo near Sydney Fish Market.
