Gamelan Gita Sari (Essence of Song)

Repertoire: Traditional and contemporary. At College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. In 1996-1997 we borrowed a gamelan and Pak Cerita was our Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence. When Gita Sari arrived in spring of 1999, Andy McGraw was our visiting Artist-in-Residence. A Luce Foundation Grant allowed us to have Desak Made Suarti Laksmi on campus in 2000 where she taught gamelan and dance for six years. Her tenure was supported with help from I Nyoman Saptanyana, and Ida Ayu Ari Candrawati who have been helping us every semester since 2000. Additional artists in residence include: I Wayan Dibia, I Nyoman Winda and Ibu Warsiki, I Made Bandem and Ni Luh Suasti Bandem, our current visiting fellow of Balinese dance and music is Nyoman Catra who started in 2016.
