Two Experimental Gamelan Makers Respond to a Changing Environment: Muhammad Sulthoni and Sigit Pamungkas

This article examines the innovative work of two experimental gamelan makers, Muhammad Sulthoni and Sigit Pamungkas, as they respond to changing cultural, environmental, and technological contexts in Indonesia. Through material experimentation and conceptual reimagining of traditional forms, both artists challenge conventional gamelan aesthetics and construction methods. Their practices reflect a broader shift toward sustainability, individuality, and adaptability in contemporary gamelan making.
