Rocky Mountain Balinese Gamelan Festival

This article recounts the development and realization of the first Rocky Mountain Balinese Gamelan Festival (RMBGF), held in April 2022. Initiated by I Made Lasmawan, Victoria Lindsay Levine, and I Putu Tangkas Adi Hiranmayena, the festival celebrated decades of Balinese gamelan activity across the U.S. Mountain West. Originally planned for 2021 but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event featured performances, workshops, and an academic symposium focused on sustainability and Balinese performing arts. The festival served as both a reunion and a launching point for future collaboration and scholarship.
